START: 6:15 AM sharp, Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, Virginia (a map is available on line. 13-hour limit with intermediate cutoffs--no early starts. Persons missing cutoffs must withdraw from the run. (Cutoff Information)

Packet Pick-up will start at 3 PM on Friday, April 7 and will close at 8 PM that evening. If you can't pick your packet up then, you may do so on race morning between 5 and 6 AM.

COURSE AND WEATHER: Fifty miles of forested, rolling terrain on dirt trails with paint blazes and ribbon markings to guide runners. Trail parallels the Bull Run and Occoquan River, crossing feeder streams, some with bridges/footings and smaller ones without. Storms preceding the event will add challenge to those who strive to finish with dry feet. The average high temperature for April 8 is 64 degrees, and the low is 44. Temperatures into the 80s are possible, however. Enjoy the beauty of Spring's blossoming foliage but be attentive to poison ivy. We'll provide soap/showers after the run, but plan for your particular needs.

There will be minor modifications in the BRR course for 2006. We will use the traditional course (used in 2002 and before) modified by use of the horse trail between Fountainhead and the Do Loop. ...More course information

AWARDS: All finishers will receive a half-zip fleece pullover with the Bull Run Run logo. Ten and five-time finishers receive special recognition. Awards to winners of each age division (open, masters, seniors, and super-seniors) in both North and South categories. Awards ceremony begins at approximately 5 PM, dependent upon weather.

TEAM COMPETITION: There will be four Team Divisions this year – Men, Women, Mixed, and Seniors (all members age 50 or over) with awards distributed in each Division. All team members must complete the run to be eligible for awards, and the team with the lowest combined time wins the BRR50 Corps Award in that division. If there are more than three finishing teams in a division, 2nd place will receive an award.

Teams must consist of five BRR-registered runners from the same club (e.g. GAC, Buzzards), or from an informal running group. Military units, but not Services, qualify as "clubs" for this purpose. (See the chart at right for nominal distinction of qualifying groups.) If the team derives from an informal group rather than a club, then all team members must have run together on at least three training runs in the three months before this Bull Run Run. The "three training run" requirement anticipates those runners who may live distant from each other, but also requires them to run together as a team before they come to compete as a team at this event. If you're unsure about how your team may or may not qualify, contact the RD.

The affinity that binds the team must exist for all members on the date entry to BRR opens -- January 23. If the affinity is membership in an organization, that membership must exist on January 23 and on race day.

The Team Captain must submit Team Name and Team Members to the RD no later than March 31st but not earlier than the close of entry for individuals. Come back to this Web page after entry closes for information on how to designate a team. You may make one team member substitution on or before March 31. No change of team names will be permitted after that date. Note: Each team member must be accepted for entry into the BRR before he or she may be nominated to be on a team. Designating teams is separate from entering the event.

HOSPITALITY: Civil War theme "technical" T's to all entrants. There will be a pre-race pasta dinner (meat/meatless) Friday, April 8, between 5:30 and 7:00 PM (cost included in entry fee for runners, $15 each for guests) with a run/trail brief beginning at 7:00 PM. Complimentary donuts/coffee on Saturday morning for all runners and crews beginning at 5 AM. Post race refreshments. No alcohol permitted in the parks.

PHOTO CD: After the event, we will create a compact disk that will have photos of the 2006 Bull Run Run. Last year's CD had hundreds of photos and a slide show with music. We will send a CD to you for roughly our cost -- $2. If you want one, order when you register. We do not guarantee that the CD will be available to those who order later. CD will be mailed after the event.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Sleep at the start/finish in dormitory-style bunk rooms at Hemlock Overlook for $25/person for Friday night and $20 for Saturday night. Showers available too. Must bring your own bedding/sleeping bag and towels. Tent camping available for $5/night per person. Sorry, no RV type vehicles permitted overnight at Hemlock Overlook. Unlike last year, bunks and camping are available for Saturday night as well as Friday.

REGISTRATION: We will accept the first 350 entries as determined by order of the receipt date of each entrant's check and signed application at the Registration Volunteer's address via snail mail. Entry fee is $75 -- no race day applications. Two free entry scholarships available to deserving runners--contact RD for details and to apply.

After 350 entries with checks have been received, a waiting list will be maintained for those still interested in participating. If any entrants withdraw from the event, the waiting list will be used to backfill vacated slots. We will send a refund less $25 to those who notify the RD that they will withdraw by March 14, 2006. After March 14, there will be NO REFUNDS.

Note on Mailing Entries: Please do not use any form of mailing that requires us to sign for or go to the post office to pick up. For the purpose of cutting off entries or for priority on the waiting list, we will use the date of postmark for mail we don't have to sign for. If we have to sign for it or go get it, we will use the date we receive it in hand.

Waiting List Procedures: The Waiting List is Now Closed.

Entry is not transferable: Do not sell or give your number to another runner. If you transfer your number, you and your replacement will be barred from participating in the Bull Run Run for two years. The 'bandit' runner will be disqualified.

QUESTIONS?--check this Web site first, then if you still have questions about the status of your entry, e-mail Valerie Meyer, the Registration Volunteer, at BullRunRun50@aol.com. After registration closes or for other questions e-mail the RD, Chris Scott at: ChrisScott@vhtrc.org.
