Red-eye 50k Trail Run

A Fat-Ass 50
January 8, 2000

7:00 AM
Triangle, VA

Location:

Prince William Forest Park, Triangle, VA

Course Description:

2 ½ repeats of a figure 8 course consisting of 90% dirt trails and 10% unpaved firebreak roads. The course is very runable and will probably be marked with streamers.

Administrative Details:

This is the 5th annual New Year's Day gathering of Slugs, however, it is not a race, no fees, no T-shirts, no frills, none of that organized stuff. Although the run is 50k, the figure 8 course allows wimps with hangovers to run shorter distances.

We will have an unmanned aid station with basic goodies and fluids in the middle of the large loop and a second aid station at the start/finish in the middle of the figure 8 (may or may not be manned - any volunteers?). During the run you will pass an aid station 6 times (you can access you car 4 times). As is the tradition in Team Slug gatherings, contributions for the aid table are welcome (sodas, cookies, pretzels or whatever).

There are heated restrooms at the start/finish.

The National Park Service charges $4.00 or $5.00 per car to use the park (I have an annual pass and don't know the exact cost.).

Directions:

The Park is located just west of I-95 about 25 miles south of Washington DC. Take exit 150 off I-95 (150B if southbound) and go west about ¼ mile to the park entrance (right turn). Enter the park and make the 1st left turn. Drive approximately 2 miles and turn left when you see the sign for Turkey Run. In 2/10 mile turn right on Turkey Run Road. The start/finish is located in the parking lot at the end of the road. Don't ask the Park Rangers where we are, they don't know we exist.
