Congratulations to John Guendelsberger for winning the 2009 VHTRC football contest. Gary Knipling was one back in second and Jack Evans was third.
Be sure to use the information that we have for you in the Club membership database. Don't worry about capitalization but be sure to spell it right. If you are "Bill Smith" on the Club roster, "William Smith" won't work.
This is a contest for VHTRC members. This year, we will start at the beginning of the NFL regular season (weekend of September 6-7) and go all the way to the college bowl games. Each week, you pick 16 college and four NFL games. You are ranked by correct picks. (If an NFL game ends in a tie, you don't get credit for that. You can't predict a tie.) All picks must be submitted by 10 PM, Friday of each week. (We will avoid Thursday games.)
The contest moderator, Anstr, will pick the games. You are welcome to suggest games to him. He is looking for close games and diversity in conferences.
We will keep a running tally of your total score. If you miss a week or start after the first week, we will give you the number of correct picks of the last person, minus two. So if the worst person who submitted picks got 6 right, and you didn't submit any, you will be assigned 4 right.
New this Year: When calculating the season champion, we will throw out one, lowest score for each contestant. We will not make this calculation until the end. This will reduce even further the penalty for missing one week of submitting picks.
You may submit picks multiple times but only your last submission counts.
We never get around to a tangible award for the season winners. No money or anything of real value will change hands. Winning is priceless!
Your ranking will be public, so don't do this if you don't want that.
Your Favorite Team: You may list your favorite team to appear next to your name in the results. This should be the team you stick by in thick and thin. This may be your alma mater or not. It can be an NFL team. Yes, if you must, you can list the Redskins. This is not the team you predict will be the national champion or win the Super Bowl. You are not "picking" this team for anything. It is, however, the team that you would pick to be the national champion or win the Super Bowl if you could make a Faustian bargain with the Devil.
The pick list has the teams you may choose from. NFL teams are listed by their nick names ("Redskins," "Cowboys," etc.). So "Washington" is the "University of" not the Redskins. If you don't see your team listed, select the "Not Listed" option, and we will contact you to put your school on the list. We have started with most of the teams that we think VHTRC members would support.
These are the games you will pick. When you are ready to pick, fill out the form above to get your ballot.
