Mary was born on July 30, 1961, in Montclair, NJ. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1979 and from Trinity College in Washington, DC in 1983. She received her master's degree in business administration at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland in 2001. Mary was a Vice President and Trust Officer at BB&T for many years, and developed strong relationships with hundreds of clients across the country, as well as locally. She was dedicated to serving others both personally and professionally. Mary embraced motherhood with unmatched dedication and enthusiasm. She enjoyed every moment possible with her son, Crocker, husband Kevin, and her large circle of family and friends. She was a very creative, artistic person, which was demonstrated by contributing to the Frederick Holiday Show and sharing her love of arts and crafts with family and friends. She served on the board of the City of Frederick Airport Commission, was a member of the Frederick County Estate Planning Council, and a dedicated volunteer to countless community service projects.

Mary touched people in a variety of exceptional ways from her quick wit, her "ever-ready" camera to catch the moment, to her never-ending thirst for adventure. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She inspired, supported, coached, listened, laughed, and loved everyone around her. Mary loved her time in Baker Park from enjoying the Sunday concerts to watching her son play soccer. She made an impact on the whole Frederick community and through her life we have all bonded together to be better persons. Her death left a big hole in many people's hearts and she will be missed every moment of every day. In every direction we will be reminded of Mary's bright smile, thoughtful insights, sense of humor, and endless cravings! She was a fighter in every sense of the word. She and her husband fought long and hard to build a family, and continued the long fight with her cancer. Even at the lowest points of her illness she was determined to enjoy her life with family and friends. Her wonderful legacy will live on in each one of us.

Mary is survived by her husband Kevin Cunliff Sayers and son Nicholas Crocker Sayers, her mother Margot O'Connell of Lavallette, NJ and three sisters, Margaret Birmingham of Wilmington, DE, Elizabeth Crocker of Montclair, NJ and Jennifer Murphy of Ogdensburg, NJ. Mary will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews, Megan, John and Mary Claire Birmingham and James and Michael Murphy.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, January 28, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, located in downtown Frederick. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and officiated by Father Keith Boisvert.
