Buzzards’ Marathon

Uphill, Pennsylvania

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word “ Buzzards”? No, besides beer….? Yep, me too. A talented and hearty group of ultrarunners from Central Pa. What’s the first thing you see when you look at the word “Buzzards”? Yep, same here. That pair of “ZZs” just kinda jumps right out at ya. What’s the first thing you think of when that pair of “ZZs” jumps out at ya? Nope. That would be wrong. They do not indicate the runner friendly “zig zag” or switchback trails that we so graciously provide for them when they come to visit us in the Massanutten. Now initially, I thought this to be a bit rude. But after more than 5 ˝ hours of contemplation, I think I figured it out. The State of Pennsylvania has a shortage of blue paint for marking trails, so they cut their trails straight up, and then straight back down. Thus, they save paint. And why do they have a shortage of blue paint for their trails? Because they’re wasteful. They paint these stupid multiple blue rings around trees that aren’t even on the trail. And how did I know that these trees were not on the trail? Like Duh. Cause the road they were on was zig zaggin’ and switchbackin’ all over the place that’s how!

So, Harry, when you, Dietz, and LaDieu get to the Fountainhead Aide Station at Bull Run Run this year, you guys wait for me. I’ll be along shortly. I want to give you guys a few cans of paint to slow you down I mean carry home with ya. Thanks for a great run Buzzards!
