The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre
The Wild Oak Trail 100

Harrisonburg, Va.
Saturday March 14, 2004

Before I begin, I must state emphatically that this is not a race report. When one accepts an invitation to participate in this event, one agrees not to write a report. This is merely a reiteration of the meaning of Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is about eating chocolate. It is not about eating snow.
Valentine’s Day is about warmth. It is not about wading through icy rivers.
Valentine’s Day is about making love. It is not about the acute shrinkage that occurs when one spends over 9 ½ hours trying to cover 26 stinkin’ miles through the snow.
Next year, Valentine’s Day is about the Poconos.
