Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run
What's New for 2012
We are looking forward to another great event at the 18th MMT 100. Most things will be the same as prior years, but we will make a few changes. Here are the big ones:
- The Camp is planning to improve the entrance to the parking area to avoid the problems caused by last year's mud. The Camp will also improve the showers. Additionally, we will be the only group at the Camp. That means that we will have more cabin space for runners, and we won't be bothering anyone and no one will bother us.
- We are doubling the number of porta-potties from last year, and we will have them better located.
- The course, aid stations, cut off times, and rules stay pretty much the same.
- The entry process will be the same. (Please note, however, the we have tweaked the entry qualifications for 2013.)
- We are budgeting for a tech fabric entrants shirt plus an additional small item, but don't run the race just to get cool stuff!
- We are working to improve the Solo Division. We will have a small item for all Solo Division runners as they finish.
- We will no longer provide the PATC maps of the Massanutten Mountains. Our price was not cheaper than you can get with the PATC. Information on how interested runners can order maps from the PATC is on the course page.
- We will continue to have special awards in several categories, and we will have all the awards and buckles at the post race awards ceremony.
- We plan to improve the post-race experience. We have doubled the budget for post-run food. We will again have the tent that provides plenty of shelter from sun or rain at the finish line.
- There will be things that will require cooperation from runners to make life easier on volunteers. We will ask you to park properly and abide by the signs and the directions of the parking attendants. We want to prevent the frustrating problem caused by people who forget to collect their drop bags. We will hound you a bit not to forget yours.
- We are raising the entry fee by $5. We don't like to raise the entry fee. We have never had a goal to be the cheapest event around. On the other hand, we want to have a reason anytime we do raise the fee, and we want to give that reason to the runners. "Because we can" is not a reason to raise the fee.
- This year, we are budgeting more money for the items noted above and for equipment to make the finish area better and to make life easier on the volunteers. We still think that, at $165, MMT is good deal.
The heart and soul of MMT will not change. There are still 100+ miles of rocks out there. They have not gone away and are waiting for you! Entry opens on December 1.
