How to Get to the Skyline Ranch Resort
Here is how to get to the Skyline Ranch Resort. Most activities associated with the MMT 100 are here including pre-race briefing and meal, start, finish, and award ceremony.
The Ranch's mailing address is "Front Royal," but it is over six miles from town. Don't expect to find the Ranch "in" Front Royal proper. Also, don't be surprised if a person in Front Royal doesn't have a clue where the Skyline Ranch Resort is.
The Map
Here is a map. It is not to scale. It just gives you a general idea of where you are going. Detailed directions are below the map.
Directions
From Washington, DC, Points East, and north and south on I-95
- Take I-66 east. It's less than an hour and a half from the Beltway (I-495) to the Ranch if there are no traffic issues. On Fridays there are most certainly traffic issues and I-66 is a parking lot until you pass Gainesville. Give yourself a lot of time.
- Take Exit 13.
- Jog down to Route 55 by turning left from the exit and then right at the signal on to 55.
- Take 55 west for 4.7 miles where you will get to a signal at US 522. Keep going straight through the signal.
- In a bit more than another mile you will T into US 340. Turn left (south) on US 340. This is just after you pass the Super 8 Motel on your left.
- Head south out of Front Royal (towards Luray) on 340 for 1.1 miles to route 619, Rivermont Drive. There is a signal there. Turn right, the only way you can turn. (Before you get to 619, you will pass left turns to Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) and to Browntown. They are both left turns. You are looking for a right turn.)
- Take 619 for 5.2 miles to Skyline Ranch Resort on the left. (Watch for a sharp right turn in road at 4.2 miles. You want to go right at that point and stay on 619.)
From Points West and I-81 north and south
- Take I-81 to I-66 (exit 300)
- Go east toward Washington, DC on I-66 (only direction you can go)
- Take exit 6.
- At end of off ramp, go right (south) on US 340 (it's also 522, but you will follow 340)
- Follow 340 through Front Royal. 340 makes a left turn in 1.8 miles and then bends to the right in another quarter mile.
- In 4.7 miles from the freeway exit you get to route 619, Rivermont Drive. There is a signal there. Turn right, the only way you can turn. (Before you get to 619, you will pass left turns to Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) and to Browntown. They are both left turns. You are looking for a right turn.)
- Take 619 for 5.2 miles to Skyline Ranch Resort on the left. (Watch for a sharp right turn in road at 4.2 miles. You want to go right at that point and stay on 619.)
Alternate Route from I-81 If you are adventuresome and don't mind country roads, you will save a lot of distance and some time by taking the following way from I-81.
- From I-81, take Exit 296 if north bound or Exit 298, if south bound
- From either exit, go toward Strasburg. If you took Exit 296, you are on route 55 and you will go east (right) on it. If you took Exit 298, you are on US 11 and you will go south (left) on it. Route 55 will soon join you from the right.
- Stay on Route 55 into the center of town. There is a signal in the middle of Strasburg where US 11 goes right and Route 55 goes left. You go left, east on Route 55.
- Follow Route 55 east out of Strasburg from that signal for 5.1 miles to Route 678. You turn right. This turn is at Waterlick (which is not much more than a wide spot in the road). There is a cemetery on the right. You turn just after the cemetery.
- Go south on 678 for 1.2 miles to Route 619. (Look for sign to fish hatchery.) Turn left (east) on 619.
- Follow 619 for 3.4 miles to Skyline Ranch Resort on the right.
