Neal was the first VHTRC finisher at the Western States 100 in California. Scott Mills finished his 15th Western States--all of them under 24 hours.  Other VHTRC finishers included Derrick Carr, Annette Bednosky, Dave Snipes, Patrick McGlade, Alisa Springman, Mike Broderick, and Ed Cacciapaglia.  All these results come from the excellent Western States live site.

Kirstin Corris reports from the Bighorn runs in Wyoming that Tom Corris took third place in the male 50-59 age group. He was the first VHTRC 50K finisher. Other 50k finishers: Kirstin Corris, Jill Quivey, Regina Nuzzo, Keith Moore, Linda Wack, Dave Quivey, Drew Watson, Ed Demoney (first in the 70+ age group). Tom Simonds was a 50 mile finisher and Gaynor Bourgeois is still on the course. Mike Dobies was pulled for time after Dry Fork. Dave Yeakel was the first VHTRC finisher. Eva Pastalkova, Justine Morrison, and Ragan Petrie swept the top three places at the Highlands Sky 40 in West Virginia on June 19. Brian Schmidt finished second and Aaron Schwartzbard finished in a tie for fifth. Michele Harmon was first Masters female.

Thouigh we don't recognize any VHTRC finishers, we should note that Scott Mills was the RD for the San Diego 100 Mile on June 12-13.  The event had live updates. While the competition was close, we give the score in the live update contest as: SD100 2 - MMT 1. Congrats to Scotty!  He is now off to run Western $tates for the last time. SD 100 Web site

Laurel Highlands, the oldest pure trail race in this area, was held on June 12-13.  Jim Harris was the leading VHTRC finisher in eighth place. Due to the closure of the bridge across the PA Turnpike, the course was seven miles longer this year. That and the warm weather made this year's event particularly brutal. VHTRC members Matt Woods and Lyuda Anderson were the top man and woman at the North Face 50 Mile held on June 5 along the Potomac River between Great Falls and Algonkian Regional Park.  On June 6, Heather Sshaffer, Matt's sister, won the half marathon.
