Meeting Place: Elizabeth Furnace Daily Use parking lot
To trailhead: Take I-66 W to exit 6, go south on 522, and make first left before brigdes, on to VA RT55 West approx 5 miles to Waterlick, take left onto RT 678, travel south for approx 4.5 miles, and look for day use parking lot on left. The run:The run takes place in George Washington National Forest using Meneka Peak, Massanutten West Trail, Mud Hole Gap, RT 678, Shawl Gap, and Sherman Gap. Start in the parking lot cross VA 678, follow blue flashes,trail until fork and turn uphill, about 3 miles to Meneka Peak, descend down to Massanutten trail/FR 66, orange flashes, turn left, and stay on road/trail past lake, for about 3 miles. Cross through gate and look for purple flashes, mud hole gap trail on left. Look for purple flashes, move onto Mudhole Gap trail and start climbing, several stream crossings, more climbing, stay on this trail until RT 678, and turn left, stay on left and back to parking lot.part 2, run over day use bridge and take first left after bridge, stay on this trail and climb about 3 miles to Shawl Gap, at peak, take the first right to Sherman Gap and follow trail back to Elizabeth Furnace.
