Aaron Schwartzbard was the overall winner of the Highlands Sky 40 Miler on Saturday June 18th, in a time of 6:07. Eva Pastalkova was the women's winner in just over 7 hours, breaking the course record by 5 minutes. Ragan Petrie was second in a time that matched the previous course record. Eva's time set the record despite her being lost in the Dolly Sods section for roughly 20 minutes (as were most of the front-runners other than local boy Aaron) due to a section having been cleared of ribbons by hikers. The usual large contingent from the VHTRC made the trip out to the Canaan Valley area of West Virginia to run Highlands Sky this year, with a number of age group winners from the club. Event Web site

Gary Lukacs led just about form the start of the VHTRC college bowl contest. Those below him went up and down, but at the end, Quatro Hubbard was second and Darin Dunham third. The regular season winner, Jack Evans, got off to a slow start but mounted late surge that didn't quite get him into the top three. One contestant thought the point of the contest was to pick the losers. Bowl contest final results

Amy ran the fifth fastest time by a woman (6:57:16) in the 48 year history of the JFK 50 mile on her way to becoming the women's winner by 21 seconds. Pam Smith, the second place female, was in the 46 mile aid station with Amy, and the two had to duke it out for four miles! Mike Campbell won the 60 year age group in 8:11:30. (For the first 10 years of JFK no 60 year old finished. This year, 55 did.) There were several other VHTRC members who participated in beautiful weather. JFK Web site
