Mike Campbell's report of his run at the Bighorn 100 mile in June 2011. Yes, that is snow behind Mike who, as usual, is running with no shirt.

Western States results are now available on the Webcast. See Ed's comment to this post for full VHTRC results. Bryon Powell was the first VHTRC finisher, Amy Sproston eighth woman, and Scott Mills finished his 16th Western States (all under 24 hours we think).
Neither overall winner is an American. Pretty interesting given that for so many years, all male winners had been Californians (until Mike Morton fixed that). Western States Web site

Mike Campbell ran 27:45 to win the 60 year-old age group at the Bighorn 100 Mile in Wyoming on June 17-18. We believe that Mike's time is an event age group record. The course was adjusted to account for the snow that the Bighorn Mountains had received this year. Results

Aaron Schwartzbard was the overall winner of the Highlands Sky 40 Miler on Saturday June 18th, in a time of 6:07. Eva Pastalkova was the women's winner in just over 7 hours, breaking the course record by 5 minutes. Ragan Petrie was second in a time that matched the previous course record. Eva's time set the record despite her being lost in the Dolly Sods section for roughly 20 minutes (as were most of the front-runners other than local boy Aaron) due to a section having been cleared of ribbons by hikers. The usual large contingent from the VHTRC made the trip out to the Canaan Valley area of West Virginia to run Highlands Sky this year, with a number of age group winners from the club. Event Web site

There were several VHTRC runners at the San Diego 100 mile on the weekend of June 11-12. VHTRC member Scott Mills is the RD of the event and has made it one of the best 100 milers on the left coast. Results are available on the event Web site.

Dan Rose led the VHTRC contingent at the Laurel Highlands Trail run on June 11-12 in PA. Dan was third overall. The event covers the 70 mile Laurel Highland Trail, but there were bonus miles to account for the lack of a bridge across the PA Turnpike. Laurel Highlands has a long history and, with Old Dominion, is one of the traditional early summer runs on the right coast. There is also a 50km and two relays. Results | LHT Web site

The 33rd Old Dominion 100 was an epic year with great weather, a packed field, and fantastic volunteer support. Neal Gorman won in 16:16.47, Linda Gaudette was first woman in 22:03.22. There were 68 runners from 15 states. Neal, Eric Grossman, and Jeremy Pade lost 25 mins due to missing course markings heading into Elizabeth Furnace. Karsten Brown was second, Eric third, Jeremy fourth, followed by David Ploskonka and Keith Knipling. Sean Andrish finished along with many other VHTRCers on this challenging course. .
