VHTRC Guide to Local Trails

Fridley Gap Figure-Eight

This run explores some of the trails south of the Catherine’s Fat Ass Run. It has a little bit of everything — singletrack, doubletrack, and gravel road.

Directions

Leave the parking area at Fridley Gap and climb up the trail paralleling a beautiful cascading stream through the gap. In 0.5 miles, at trail intersection, take a right onto the orange-blazed Massanutten South Trail and climb Fourth Mountain. Follow for 3.5 miles to four-way trail intersection and make a right onto orange-blazed Boone Run Trail. Continue on Boone Run Trail for 2.1 miles to Cub Run Road at Runkles Gap. Make a left onto Cub Run Road and climb for 1.5 miles.

At saddle, make a left onto purple-blazed Fridley Gap Trail and climb 0.8 miles back to four-way trail intersection. Make a right to stay on purple-blazed Fridley Gap Trail and follow for 0.7 miles. Turn left, off of the doubletrack trail, to stay on purple-blazed Fridley Gap Trail. Climb up and over Third Mountain to orange-blazed Massanutten South Trail. Take a left and then a quick right to return to the parking area at Fridley Gap.

Map

What you do is up to you, but you shouldn't rely on these directions alone; they are often not specific enough to navigate by, and may be incorrect or out of date. Review a map beforehand and carry it with you. Tell a friend where you are going and when you plan to return. Do not count on having cell phone service while on the run. The VHTRC is not responsible for your welfare on any of these runs. If you go on one of these runs and get lost, run out of water, get injured, mauled by a bear, or die, or if anything else goes wrong, it's your fault; not ours. You assume all risks here and the VHTRC assumes none at all. Legal issues aside, some of these runs are more remote than others and the VHTRC is not suggesting that you do any of these runs, unless you are prepared to accept full responsibility for yourself.
