The Lottery
On January 13, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed UP at 42,297.12. We use the three least significant digits, so our number is 712, and we count up. See the lottery results. Remember that the lottery results merely give you the right to join the entrants or wait list. You must take action to join either list. Come back here on January 15 to do that. You must act by January 24 at 9 pm.
The VHTRC Entry Process
The VHTRC uses an entry system designed to promote fairness and transparency, and also to avoid anxiety on the day that registration opens. Our system is a bit different. Some questions and answers:
Am I Going to Get In?
You have a shot at entry only if you complete both steps of our entry process.
- Step 1: Apply for entry.
- Step 2: Come back later to pay - either as an entrant or to join the wait list.
How Will I Know If I Get In?
It all depends on how many people apply. If more than runners apply, we will automatically hold a lottery that determines who gets into the race. If you win the lottery, you're in the race -- as long as you pay your entry fee on time. If you lose the lottery, you can pay to join the preference-weighted wait list. The lottery results will be public and announced by .
Why Isn't Entry First-Come, First-Served?
We don't like obsessively refreshing our browser 15 seconds after a entry opens either! So we designed our entry system to promote fairness, transparency, and above all, calm.
For more information about the VHTRC's entry system, check out the detailed explanation.
Prior Finishers Prior finishers have the same chance as anyone else in winning the lottery. They do, however, have priority on the wait list if they lose the lottery. If you are a prior finisher, be sure our records are right by checking the prior finishers list. That page has information about how to fix a problem.
Deadlines
The pace of entry is casual, and you do not need to be the first to do something. But opening and closing times are automatic and final. Don't wait until the last minute! There is no sleepy lackey turning entry off. The clock on our server does that. It is punctual.
