Waiver -- Please Read!
Completing the MMT entry process, you attest that you have read and understand this waiver and take personal responsibility for participation in the MMT 100 Mile Run. You state the following: "I wish to enter and participate in the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run beginning on May 12, 2012. I accept the rules, conditions, and regulations of the event and will comply with them. I acknowledge that I am responsible for my pacers and crew and can be disqualified for their violations of the rules (as well as my own). I am aware that this trail run is extremely difficult and hazardous. I am aware that I should not participate in this event unless I am in excellent physical condition, have previously run a 50 mile or longer event and have trail running experience. I am aware that I may be exposed to physical injury from a number of natural factors including weather conditions and other hazards on the trail, lack of water, communicable diseases, wildlife, and to hazards of vehicular traffic and other hazards attendant to running along or across roadways during the day and at night.

I understand and accept that the risks include the fact I may become injured or incapacitated in a location where it is difficult or impossible for the Run's management to get medical aid to me in time to avoid additional physical injury, even death. Knowing these facts, and in consideration for being accepted to participate in this Run, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, waive and release forever any and all rights and claims of damage I may accrue against any and all sponsors of this event, the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club, its administrators and volunteers, the Road Runners Club of America, the Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp, the U. S. Forest Service, and assigns, all landowners and trail maintainers, and anyone else that may become associated with the run, directly or indirectly, their representatives, successors and assigns, from any and all rights, claims or liability for damage for any and all injuries to me or my property, or for damage caused by me or by anyone else (including Acts of God), arising out of or in connection with my participation in this event. I further agree that I will defend and indemnify the above released parties against all claims, demands and causes of action or other proceeding brought by or prosecuted for my behalf contrary to this agreement. I will assume my own medical, emergency, and search and rescue expenses in the event of an accident or other incapacity or injury resulting from or occurring during my participation. I grant permission to use any photographs or other recordings of this event for any legitimate purposes. As a part of this waiver, I acknowledge that I have read and understood all of the above. This release and waiver extends to all claims of every kind or nature foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown."
The essence of this waiver is that the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run presents extreme and unknown risks for which I freely and voluntarily agree to be solely responsible, in order to enable this event to take place and to enable my participation in it. Revised, January 2012.
