VHTRC Board Candidate Statement of Quatro Hubbard

My name is Quatro Hubbard and I am seeking re-election to the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club Board in the upcoming election.  For those that don’t know me, I am a trail runner who lives in Richmond during the week, but who is up in the mountains virtually every weekend.  I have been a member of the VHTRC for the past eight years, and have served on the Board for the last two.

At one time, I had a reputation for running pretty much every event that was on the race schedule from Pennsylvania down to North Carolina. Other runners have stepped up and proven to be much crazier than I ever was in regards to racing overload.  But the sport has changed somewhat in the past few years as well.  Many of the races have become more popular and more likely to fill to capacity, and to fill quickly. Unfortunately, many of the races in our area have had entry fees jump up just as quickly.

Except for the races and events put on by the VHTRC.  We can’t control what others charge for their events, but we can and do continue to focus on providing lower cost and no cost events for the area trail running community.  In my case, this has involved co-directing a number of VHTRC events, such as The Ring and the Elizabeth Furnace 50K, amongst others.  I look forward to serving another term on the VHTRC Board, in large part in order to continue the work of making great running bargains such as these available to the club membership, and to potential new members.  It is a pleasure to do so in large part because of the willingness of so many within the club to step up and help make these events happen. In addition to the excellent response each year to calls for trail work volunteer days, such as the MMT Work/Party weekend in early May, which has now become a major event on the Forest Service’s calendar.

I have enjoyed working with the current Board over the last two years, and I know that Mike Bur, Carolyn Gernand and Kerry Owens, while stepping down from consideration for re-election to the Board, will continue to be major contributors to the events and activities that make the VHTRC not only a great running club, but an outstanding social club as well.  I am looking forward to serving another two year term with Alan, Ed, Paul, and Anstr, but also with the rest of the club membership.  Ours is a club filled with talented, interested and involved members. It is my hope that during my upcoming term on the Board, you all will continue to relay your ideas and concerns about all things related to the club to me and as well as the other Board members.

Thanks for your interest and participation in the VHTRC – happy trails!
