The Ring started at 7 am this morning. Only two entrants didn't show - Mike Mason and Ernesto Casarez. There are 30 runners out there. VHTRC.org will set up its headquarters at Powells Fort. Unfortunately, there will be no coverage there. Anyone with news can post it here as a comment to this story. Ring Web page

Ed Demoney is bringing back the popular Potomac Overlook Trails Runs on November 14. These runs are composed of one or two loops of a four kilometer course in Potomac Overlook Regional Park in Arlington. This is the event for those who want a shorter trail run and who do not want a long drive. The very reasonable entry fee supports two local parks. More Information

The Angeles Crest 100 miler that is held in Southern California each September, has been cancelled for 2009 due to the fires in the mountains.
In my opinion, AC is one of the best 100 mile trail runs. Not for silly reasons like the management or "swag." It's the course that matters. It's beautiful, hard, and runnable.
Just as the bluebells come out each spring in Virginia, the fires come out in Southern California. It is quite amazing that they have been able to have Angeles Crest as often as they have. It has only been cancelled one or two times before.
